Fri 18 Jan 2008 REF:6121LaR1 Y/R: Child Protection in Sport TO: The Hon Paul LYNCH MP cc Federal and State MPs Minister for Local Government Concerned Parents NSW PARLIAMENT Dear Minister REQUEST ADVICE ON COUNCILS ANSWERING PARENTS' QUESTIONS We write to seek your advice and guidance on the most appropriate course of action for our Group of Parents concerned about how Local Councils are responding to Parents' concerns about Child Protection for Children playing junior sport. These concerns were identified during a series of Public Consultations on the impact of the NSW Child Protection legislation on Junior Sports Clubs. Many Local Council and Councillors were invited as we understand s16 of the NSW Local Government Code of Meeting Practice and s232 of the NSW Local Government Act "What is the role of a Councillor ?". Some Local Council have refused to accept questions at Council meetings or answer written questions on these important issues. Out of frustration at the lack of response and some resistance and antagonistic responses from the Councillors, we have documented our efforts on a web-site. We request that someone from the NSW Ministry of Local Government attend the next Mosman Council meeting so that you can understand and advise on how our questions can be answered by the Council. NEXT STEPS We would appreciate your advice and a confirmation that someone from the Ministry of Local Government will attend the next Mosman Council meeting on either Tue 05 Feb 2008 or Tue 04 Mar 2008. Thank you Yours sincerely Stephen GOULD Hon Secretary KIDS SAFE-AT-SPORT NETWORK E: stephen.gould@ksas-au.net M: 0416-009-468 W: Kids Safe-at-Sport Network [KSAS-Au]
