This approach is commonly known as a "Renewable Portfolio Standard". MRET uses Renewable Energy Certificates [RECs] to promote the development of renewable energy resources. RECs are a measurement of electricity output (MWh) rather than emissions of CO2 (measurement in Tonnes) RECs are worth significantly more in the market than NSW Greenhouse Gas Abatement Certificates [NGACs] http://greenhousegas.nsw.gov.au/overview/other_schemes/national.asp b NSW Initiatives a Legislation 1 NSW Carbon Rights Legislation Amendment Act 1998 2 NSW The Natural Resources Legislation Amendment (Rural Environmental Services) Act 1999 3 NSW Plantations & Reafforestation Act 1999 4 NSW Plantations & Reafforestation (Code) Regulation 2001 5 Natural Resources Commission Act 2003 b Implementation of Legislation c MOSMAN COUNCIL INITIATIVES a Mosman Sustainability Advisory Group [MSAG] b Mosman Clean Energy for Ever [CEFE] d CR SIMON MENZIES'S INITIATIVE The plan is to build on an initiative by Cr Simon MENZIES to provide exercise equipment to enable Mosman residents to "counteract the drift towards obesity and encourage people to exercise" Ref Mosman Daily 08 Nov 2007.
