QUESTION: COUNCIL MEETING TUE O4 NOV 2008

Dear Mr Mayor

Q: Would the Council consider that the General Manager's and Directors'
Remuneration Contracts should be linked to the Sustainability
performance and Rate-payers savings from effective Climate Change
Strategies ?

BACKGROUND

The demise of the Financial Markets and Housing Markets have costs
the Council and its rate-payers considerable revenue.

We note that GM/53 "General managers and Directors' Contracts" the
General Manager has recommended that Council accept that the following
Directors Remuneration Packages are reviewed during the year

1	General Manager $ 229,268
A	Director Environment and Planning $ 177,337
B	Director Community Development $ 174,802
C	Director Corporate Services/Public Officer $ 174,802

						TOTAL	$ 756,209

There will also be additional costs for expenses, vehicles and
Superannuation.

The Council Current Climate Change Strategies like Green Electricity
has seen an increase in the rates of $ 6.00 per household.

Would it not be more appropriate for the Senior Staff and perhaps all
staff receive a base salary and a performance bonus based on the
amount of cost reduction for the rate-payers ?

NEXT STEPS

We look forward to Councils' Response on the issue

Yours faithfully
